การใช้ "take" ในความหมายว่า "ใช้เวลา"

การใช้ "take"  ในความหมายว่า "ใช้เวลา"

คำว่า "take" มีความหมายมากมายในภาษาอังกฤษ  แต่เฉพาะในบทนี้ จะกล่าวเฉพาะ take ที่มีความหมายว่า "ใช้เวลา....."  เท่านั้น

หมายเหตุ
1. เนื่องจาก take มีความหมายว่า "ใช้เวลา...."  อยู่แล้ว   ดังนั้น  เมื่อกล่าวว่า "ใช้เวลา5นาที" จะไม่นิยมพูดว่า "It takes time 5 minutes."   แม้จะไม่ผิดก็ตาม   แต่ให้พูดว่า " It takes 5 minutes."
เพราะหลักการใช้ภาษาที่ดี ไม่ควรใช้คำยืดเยื้อหรือฟุ่มเฟือย แต่ในกรณีภาษาพูดมักจะไม่เคร่งครัดเรื่องนี้  เนื่องจากการพูดมีเวลากระชั้นชิดที่จะต้องพูดออกมา หากผู้พูดไม่ชำนาญในการปรุงแต่งภาษาให้สละสลวยเนื่องจากเวลามีจำกัด เรื่องนี้ย่อมไม่ใช่ปัญหาใหญ่ เพียงแต่อาจจะถูกคนที่ใช้ภาษาละเอียดหรือเคร่งครัดต่อว่าบ้าง  เรื่องนี้ขึ้นอยู่กับมุงมองของแต่ละฝ่าย

2.บางครั้งจำเป็นต้องพูดเต็มรูปแบบเพื่อให้ผู้ฟังเข้าใจชัดเจนว่า "ใช้เวลา"   

ตัวอย่างเช่น
                      A: Is the destination far? จุดหมายปลายทางไกลไหม?
                      B: It takes time. ใช้เวลาครับ (แสดงว่าผู้ตอบบอกเป็นนัยๆว่าต้องใช้เวลา)                                                  

ตัวอย่าง

๑. การเดินทางไปเชียงใหม่ใช้เวลาประมาณ๗ชั่วโมง (กล่างถึงขอเท็จจริง ความเป็นปกติ)
๒ การเดินทางไปเชียงใหม่ใช้เวลา๑๒ชั่วโมง(จากเหตุการณ์ที่ประสบขึ้นจริงที่ผ่านมา ทั้งนี้เกิดจากปัจจัยประกอบอื่นๆ เช่นการจราจรติดขัด ฝนตกระหว่างทาง รถเสีย  ฯลฯ)
๓. การเดินทางไปเชียงใหม่จะใช้เวลาประมาณ๗ชั่วโมง (ผู้พูดคาดการณ์ไว้)
หมายเหตุ  trip ใช้ในความหมายว่า การเดินทาง   journey ใช้ในความหมายเน้นว่า การเดินทางที่ไกลหรือยาวนาน
๔. การก่อสร้างภูเขาทอง กรุงเทพฯ ใช้เวลาประมาณ ๕๐ปีจึงเสร็จสมบูรณ์
๕. ใช้เวลาไม่นานหรือ? (มันไม่ใช้เวลานานหรอกหรือ?)
๖. คุณใช้เวลาอยู่ที่นี่ได้นานเท่าที่คุณต้องการ
๗. คุณใช้เวลาอยู่ที่นั่นนานเท่าไร?
๘. คุณจะใช้เวลาอยู่ที่นั่นนานเท่าไร?
๙. ใช้เวลาปลูกทุเรียนประมาณ ๗ ปี / ใช้เวลาประมาณ ๗ปีเพื่อปลูกทุเรียน(ข้อเท็จจริง)

๑๐.การปลูกข้าวใช้เวลาประมาณ ๑๒๐ วัน (จริงๆ แล้วแต่พันธ์ุข้าว)

๑๑.เที่ยวบินจากกรุงเทพฯไปเชียงรายใช้เวลาประมาณ๑ชั่วโมง๑๕นาที (โดยปกติ)

๑๒.สิทธัตถะใช้เวลา๖ปีจึงตรัสรู้เป็นพระพุทธเจ้าสมณโคดม

เฉลย

12.Sithattha took 6 years to get enlightenment as a Buddha, Kotama Buddha.
