การใช้คำว่า "last" เป็น คำกริยา

โดยทั่วไปเรามักจะใช้ last ในความหมายเป็นคำคุณศัพท์(adjective)ว่า "สุดท้าย" จนลืมไปว่า คำเดียวกันนี้ เป็นคำกริยาได้ด้วย มีความว่า "กินเวลา....(เท่านั้นเท่านี้) , อยู่ได้,คงอยู่ได้ .....(ถึงเท่านั้นเท่านี้)

ตัวอย่าง
๑. ถ่าน(แบตเตอรรี่)นี้ อยู่ได้ ๑๐ชั่วโมง
๒. เที่ยวบินไปสหรัฐอเมริกากินเวลา ๒๔ช่วโมง (บินจากกรุงเทพฯแบบไม่หยุดพัก)

(ปัจจุบันไม่มีแล้ว เพราะ ขาดทุน และแพง)
๓. การแสดงนี้กินเวลานานแค่ไหน?
๔. การตั้งท้องของช้างกินเวลาประมาณ๒๒เดือน
